Connells are by far are the worst letting agency I have ever dealt with! First off, the tenancy agreement was drawn up with the incorrect rent payment date, luckily my partner noticed prior to signing and asked for new contracts to be created, they were, we signed them and assumed that would be the end of it, as the months rolled on we continually received the same letter stating that our rent payments were late which of course we knew they weren't. I called several times, only to be fobbed off and told that the situation was in hand. 12 weeks after signing the contracts it emerged that the agent dealing with the second agreement had never let the accounts team know that we would be making payment on the 27th of each month rather than the 20th so it continually arrived late!, I then asked them to let my landlady know of the mistake so that she wasn't unduly concerned, they assured me that this had already been done. When I spoke with her directly she knew nothing about it!. And then it gets better, my partner and I decided that from August 2015 we would each pay half of the rent from our own separate accounts, so two days prior to the rent due date I called Connells to request the correct account details, they were provided to me over the telephone and the rent was transferred, the following week I had a call from Connells to say that the rent had not been paid, I assumed once again that this was just a carry on from the previous mistake, however it transpired that they actually had not received my rent which then posed the question, where had it gone?. I called Connells back and read the account details that the monies had gone to only for them to confirm that they knew nothing of those details and they did not belong to the company. To make matters worse the employee who had given the details to me had left the company a few days before and therefore apparently it was not their problem, they also suggested that I may wish to duplicate the rent payment to bring the account up to date!!. I have contacted my bank who are trying to figure out who has my money, Connells will not confirm if calls between tenants and letting agents are recorded and I am now in contact with an ombudsman, it truly has been one of the most stressful experiences of my life. I can honestly say that even if I found the property of my dreams I would not pursue it if Connells had any involvement at all!!. I am 20 weeks pregnant and spending at least an hour every day on the phone to the bank/ ombudsman or complaints team. It really has been an awful experience.
