My brother and I had to sell our Mother's house in a hurry to pay for nursing home fees. She's 91, registered blind with dementia.
We were pleased with Cassidy and Tate's professional photography, the attractive looking folder, the advertising and the accompanied viewings.
We were advised by Cassidy and Tate to reduce the price of the house from £495000 to £480,000 for a quick sale. We were told the buyer was not in a chain.
Unknown to us, the sale of buyer's property had fallen through and he needed to arrange a new buy- to-let-mortgage.
It took six and a half months instead of the average three months.
We've had to to take out personal loans to cover the cost of our Mum's nursing home care.
We think our Mum could have lost thousands of pounds by taking such a low offer, by the delay and not putting the house back on the market sooner for a higher price. She's also lost interest (however low) on the proceeds of the house and missed the chance to put some of the money in Pensioner's Bonds.
I asked Cassidy and Tate to reduce their commission as a gesture of goodwill to reflect the financial loss to our Mum. They threatened us with court proceedings if we didn't pay within five days.
As my brother is very ill, we don't want the stress of an Ombudsman enquiry and we don't feel we can risk any more of our Mum's money on a court case.
Therefore we no choice but to pay their full fee of 1% on behalf of our poor little Mum.
