I tried to buy a property advertised with Fox and Sons in 2010. They tried to dissuade me stating that another buyer was already in place -i.e one of their preferred buyers, despite the house only being advertised that day.
I submitted a higher than asking offer (£200k) and my offer was accepted in writing by the vendor.
Fox and Sons then put a lot of pressure on me to use their in - house mortgage adviser and they were very unhappy when i confirmed that i had my own mortgage in place already (thus depriving them of an easy commission).
In fact they tried to scupper my offer by disputing my income, asking to see my pay slips etc when i already had a genuine mortgage offer in place and showed them the documentation.
Two days after my offer was accepted, they told me that a new offer had been made and that the sale would go to an informal tender. I made a bid of £210k but i was told that someone had made a higher bid. I increased my offer twice to £225k but was given little support from the agent and was informed that the vendor wished to stay with the other buyer.
When the sale was completed i was able to find the details of the sale at the land registry and it was confirmed that the sale had gone through to their original preferred buyer at £200k.
So, the vendor lost out on an extra £25k and i lost out on a great property because Fox & sons wanted to push their own buyer through and gain the double commission.
What agent could do to change your mind?
I would never use them again. they are total sharks.
