Three years ago, I used the services of Homebells (245 Mitcham Road Tooting, Tooting, SW17 9JQ) by letting my property. They found me a tenant and then I agreed with the tenant for the deposit to be managed by Homebells by putting it into a deposit scheme and then asked the estate agent to send me the Deposit Certificate. I have waited few months but did not get anything and then started to chase them up. In this process I wasted so much time calling them, sending them e-mails and driving countless of times to their office but when I did manage to get hold of somebody I was told that the Certificate will be sent to me. In most cases I did not get any replies to my e-mails or no answer to my calls and when I got to their office it was always closed and a note on the door stating to call their phone number for any enquiries.
Last year when I asked them if the deposit has been put into a scheme they said that was the case but having contacted all the organisations that manage the deposit schemes, I could not find one that could confirm to me that the deposit is with them.
In recent months, I then started to not get any replies to my calls or e-mails and then their landline phone stoped working and their internet website is down too.
I am currently taking legal action against this estate agent as nothing else has worked.
What agent could do to change your mind?
I was initially overcharged compared to the agreed fees but after a long time I was refunded.
