We've just part-exchanged our home, to move into a new build property. Through the part-ex process, the developer appointed Hunters in Consett to sell our existing house on their behalf. At first, things seemed positive. The two gentlemen who came round to measure up and take photos were friendly and professional. The photos they took were great quality, and really showed our house off.
They managed to find a few viewings for us. On the morning of the first viewing, we went out not realising that Hunters would try and call us to confirm that we were still available for the viewing. We came home to a missed call on our home phone, and returned it to find that Hunters had cancelled the viewing as they could not confirm our availability. Had they tried our two mobile numbers? No, because they failed to update their records yet again.
A few more appointments came up - each time, they called our home phone. We'd call them back when we got home, and either leave an answerphone message asking them to call us on a mobile when they were open, or we'd speak to someone in the office who'd say the person dealing with our property was out, and would arrange for them to call us back. They never did return calls, or at least not to our mobiles anyway.
On a number of occasions when we spoke to them, we checked that they actually did have our mobile numbers - it turned out they'd actually got an old number, despite us giving them our new ones several times over. On one occasion, they acted indignant and surprised that we hadn't received a text message from them, and promptly reeled off my old number yet again when I checked where they'd sent it.
The final straw came when, having returned their calls on numerous occasions and never got through to the right person, they got in touch with the developer we were part exchanging with to complain about us being uncooperative! This was something we were really not happy with - fortunately, the developer accepted our explanation of events and how incompetent Hunters had been because we had previously complained about the issues with them - had they not, the purchase of our new house could have fallen through.
Fortunately the purchase of our new property didn't fall through, and we moved out. In the several months we had the property on the market, Hunters did not manage to successfully get one person through the door to view due to their complete inability to successfully call the right number. We did have a viewing prior to moving out (via another estate agents) and the first thing the person did was complain that they couldn't get Hunters to ring them back about a viewing. Hunters now hold keys to the vacant property, but I imagine they're still trying to call our (now disconnected) home phone number to try and arrange a viewing.
We found them unprofessional, uncooperative and impolite, not to mention utterly incompetent. We'd recommend anyone looking to sell their home give Hunters in Consett a very wide berth.
