I have been looking for a property for some time and one came up in a great area of Hove. I was so interested that I even put in an offer before buying it as the day I was meant to view the booking was apparently inconvenient to view by the tenants. This viewing was also only cancelled hours before I was meant to be viewing the property despite being booked in 3 days earlier.

I finally get a viewing and the agent doesn't acknowledge that I had already made an offer on the property and was more interested in handing me details than asking my name. At the end of the viewing I said to call me in the morning so I could maybe up the offer if needed as he said their were others on the table.

I received no call so I called the office directly. He said I could up my offer by ‚£40k right there and then and he could guarantee that the vendor would take the offer. Surely, that is up to the vendor to decide and not the agent as they had not even vetted my financial acumen at this stage. Poor vendor if the estate agent is now making the decision for her. I said I couldn't go in that high but could make another offer closer to the guide price. The agent mentioned that their were another couple who were really interested and I would have to wait till the end of the day once he had that in. I am an interested party and I have put an offer in...that should be put to the vendor for them to decide and not the agent. Further to that, his interest should lie in the customer he is talking to as I am not interested in other customers he has!!!

On hearing this I then queried the very high service and maintenance charges that came with the property. He said the solicitors would deal with this??!! This is a simple question that anyone should be able to answer when selling a property and needs to be answered before hand.

After this type of 'car salesmanship' and price hiking where the agent and not the vendor makes the decision I would never use this agent again!

They have lost my business and my respect as an agent.
