- Personally offensive to the point of me putting the phone down on Graham Brown. It had been a difficult and frustrating process, but he stepped over the line and made a bad process even worse by making personal comments.
- No explanation of purchasing process, procedures, documents needed, activities, responsibilities or ownership. This means both the vendor and the purchaser are floundering to move forward without clear expectations and accountabilities.
- There was no competent attempt to facilitate and clarify dates despite being repeatedly asked verbally and in writing. The result was as purchasers we could not plan or control our lives and people get stressed. Once I spoke directly to the vendor (which had until then had not been allowed), issues were resolved within hours.
- No clear or proactive management from the agents. They verbally claimed a lot, but exactly what they achieved or contributed beyond forwarding emails is unclear. In fact, I'd say that in my opinion they hampered the entire process significantly.
- They did a poor job of facilitating communications between seller and purchaser. No conference calls to organise things when difficulties were encountered, no clear identification of ownership and next actions. The process was left confused and floundering.
- It is my recommendation to avoid them at all costs. My only solace is that I believe the shelf-life of estate agents is a limited one, given the movement in technologies. When Rightmove truly enables self-facilitation / sales as an integral part of their offering to end customers (and they will because of a huge market), people will question the value of estate agents and what they are adding to the process for their cost. 5 years, max before they are obsolete.
What agent could do to change your mind?
