I put my house up for sale with Pattinsons as I was relocating due to my job. It was advertised at slightly lower price to attact a quick sale but Pattinsons saw this as a green card to try and offer it to property developers for a ridiculous price and tried to create an impression that I'd "give the house away". They didn't call me to advise of prospective viewings and other times when viewings were scheduled, the prospective buyers didn't show up. Pattinsons didn't follow this up. Eventually I received an offer from a buyer that was a little lower than I wanted but decided to accept as it was a firm offer. Pattinsons did NOT do what they promise in their contract if the sale is going ahead and collect an immediate deposit. They dragged their heels for a couple of days giving the developer a chance to drop his offer by several thousand pounds. They tried to bully me into accepting this saying NO-ONE was interested in buying the property, They had no viewings scheduled and by this time I had relocated with my job and the property was empty. They advised that there were no viewings scheduled in the run up to the auction but my ex neighbour phoned to say that she had seen at least 2 groups of people enter my house to view it. I sent the property to auction but did not receive a single offer at auction. Just to point out here that my house was a nice little street house, newly decorated with new ktichen and bathroom (not run down). They phone me on the evening after the auction to say the buyer who had put in the original offer had now put in a 3rd, LOWER offer so did I want to proceed. This offer was aroudn £10k lower than the first offer. If they had done what they are supposed to do and take a deposit, then this buyer would have been deterred from coming back with progressively lower offers. As I had already moved to my new life and job I decided to just sell up. I was so fed up of Pattinsons and their attitude of just wanting to get their commission. They don't give a damn about representing you as an agent. In fact I felt at times that they were more interested in helping developers screw someone over. I had to wonder if they personally new any of these developers?? If I had the money and the inkling I'd seek legal advice over them not taking a deposit when they should have. I would recommend that you look elsewhere when seeking to sell your property by auction. These people did nothing for me except take a huge commission. I wish I had never contacted them! I am DISGUSTED.
