Martin & Co Chelmsford are quite frankly the worst company I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I can safely advise anyone who is looking to buy/rent a new property to avoid them at all costs. Even if my dream property became available through Martin & Co, I would avoid them like the plague. They are horrendous in every aspect of their business and charge extortionate rates for a pitiful service.
From the very first communication to the last, they have proved themselves to be a total shambles time and time again. The ¢â‚¬Å“charges¢â‚¬Â they request are an outright robbery and it is questionable how they are legally able to request these.
An example of the ¢â‚¬Å“charges¢â‚¬Â is as follows:
1. Arrangement fee ¢â‚¬â€œ (£50.00) I'm fairly certain this consisted of making a phone call.
2. Reference Fee ¢â‚¬â€œ (£30.00) This is literally providing a reference for my new landlord. However, I was informed that £30.00 was a discount, oh thanks!
3. Check in fee ¢â‚¬â€œ (£120.00) I would love to know what administration takes place that justifies charging £120?
I could try to understand the justification for some of the fees charged if the service provided had been up to an adequate level. However, this was not the case and everything Martin & Co provided was slow, unhelpful and bad-mannered. The day I moved in, the property was dirty and had numerous issues despite being 'professionally cleaned'. I immediately began to doubt that the property had actually been checked before I moved in. If it had, then it was done very poorly.
If you have been unfortunate enough to have made the same fatal mistake of going with M&C, then just hope and pray that nothing goes wrong. Not only is their service poor in terms of taking an absolute age attempting to rectify trivial stuff, (if at all) but they will also try and make you feel guilty for making genuine complaints! I received comments back such as ¢â‚¬Å“nobody has ever complained about the cleaning before?¢â‚¬Â I found this extremely unhelpful and irrelevant to my case.
If you fancy throwing away money for an appalling service and an unprofessional company who has no regard for its customers then by all means go with Martin & Co. I would highly recommend that you take your business elsewhere and never have to go through a similar experience.
