My partner and I first dealing with Lettings R Us was when we viewed a flat. The flat was well presented and both my partner and I were keen to rent. We were told by Richard we could pay a holding fee of £95.00 per person which would also cover the cost of the credit search. We were not informed that the cost didn't include VAT so we ended up paying £233.00 when we were lead to believe we would be paying £190.00. I was later informed that I didn't pass the credit search. I found this difficult to digest considering I bought and sold a house two years previous and I've never missed a payment or been refused credit. I requested a copy of my credit search which I was refused on the grounds of data protection. ITS MY DATA! I then requested the name of the company that Lettings R Us had obtained my credit search from which was Equifax. I signed up to a 30 day free trial with Equifax and obtained my credit score. My score was well above the 150 that Lettings R Us require. Equifax present information of credit searches carried out on there website detailing Name, Date, Search Reason, Company and Search Type. My last credit search according to Equifax website was 8 months previous which lead me to believe a accurate search had not been carried out. Equifax website did how ever show that Lettings R Us carried out a tenant verification and additional address search . When I got in contact with Lettings R Us I was spoken to in a very unprofessional and aggressive manner. I was informed that a credit search had been carried out and I had not met the criteria. If my partner and I wanted the flat we would have to get a guarantor and pay a further £114.00 for a credit search to be carried out on the guarantor which they could also fail or pay six months rent plus a deposit upfront which would have been in the region of £4000.00. If we were not willing to carry out one of the two options the property would be put back onto the market. Richard was ever so kind to offered me 5 minutes of his time to discuss all of the above. ARE YOU SERIOUS! EVER HEARD OF CUSTOMER SERVICE! NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THIS COMPANY!
