Almost immediately after agreeing to rent one Streets Ahead properties, Jonathan was insistent on us leaving him a review, chasing me up on a couple of occasions to check if I have done it. I did as instructed and left a positive review, and at the time, deservedly so.
Two months on and I can see why he was so determined to get the review out of me so quickly. His views and values he places on customers and clients is entirely shot-term and single-tracked. After such a laid back approach to the property viewing and contract, I had the impression he was consultative and cared about what we wanted, as I highlighted in my original review. I couldn't have been further from the truth. After moving into the flat there were a huge number of faults, most of which were already pointed out by the previous tenants and ourselves far in advance before the moving in date.
We were disappointed but not disheartened and raised the issues. No response. 2 weeks later we raised them again. No response. Bare in mind one of the issues is a severely leaking tap in the bathroom, which was also covered in mould with the paint falling off. It's now 2 months on and we still hadn't received a response and our water bill was sky high. The funny thing is if I type in "Jonathan Claustres" in my sent items the list of emails is as long as the list of faults with the flat. If I type it in my inbox, the only contact I have had from him recently have been about leaving him a review.
In any case, since we threatened to contact the landlord direct someone else has come in to help. I do hope it does get resolved because we absolutely love the property, and that's what's keeping us hanging on.
My advice? Just tread very carefully. I work as a headhunter and in an agency sales business and am very aware of these type of sales techniques and methodologies, and try to avoid them like the plague when I hire for my own business. They are only concerned about the commission and their end of target stags and numbers. Just like in any industry however, it is a small world, unfortunately for Jonathan, and the real value is in long-term relationships, repeat business, referrals,. For example I am looking to buy a property in the next year in the Crystal Palace area next year once I've sold my current apartment in Essex. The agency I am using for the sale is the one who have been managing the property for the past 2 years. When it comes to buying I normally only use agencies I trust or have used before. Unfortunately Jonathan has given me no confidence to use him or Streets Ahead. What he needs to do is treat landlords and tenants the same, and not elevate on over the other. Once he realises that tenants become landlords and vice versa, and he treats them the same, his values on relationships will completely change. Then he may fulfil his potential.
