A thoroughly unpleasant experience from start to finish.
I moved to that cottage in Devon from London. Two days before the move, Fresh Move said they thought I should delay because they weren't sure if the property was in a habitable state. Why weren't they sure? Wasn't that their job?? After all, they were managing the place!
By then it was too late, all the arrangements had been made. There was no way I could delay moving all my belongings 250 miles!
The property was in a disgusting condition. The carpets had been steam cleaned but everything else was dirty. They had had 24 hrs to send in cleaners but hadn't bothered;
Damp and mouldy walls. Broken glass and fag ends in the gardens. Cobwebs, woodlice and slugs. Two dirty toilets and bathroom. Rubbish dumped in both gardens. Dirty cupboards and kitchen. A leaking skylight that took 3 months to fix.
No Gas for the first two days!
They were Managing this place but just were not interested. Every time I called them it was obvious they just wanted to get me off the phone.
After 3 months I moved out. I lost my deposit even though I sent photographs of the mouldy walls.
I would not recommend Fresh Move to anybody.
Below, is the letter I sent to the Tenancy Dispute Service when I tried to get my deposit returned.
RE: The disgusting condition of the cottage on the day I moved in.
I wrote to the agent expressing concern about the amount of damp on the walls. I have asthma and wanted it rectified before I moved in. I was assured this would be done but it was not. I attach photos and an email as proof (to the TDS).
The previous tenant moved out on May 1st. I attach an email from Fresh Move confirming this (to the TDS). There was a 24 hr period when the empty property could have been cleaned. They had shampooed the carpets but cleaned nothing else. The toilets and the tiles behind them were dirty. There were cobwebs everywhere (my friend spent four hours dusting). There was broken glass and hundreds of cigarette butts outside the kitchen door. The oven was filthy (photo attached). There was damp on the walls (photos attached)
I was left without Gas for the first two days. This was because the gas meter card carried debt from the previous tenant. I had no Gas central heating or hot water until an emergency card was sent through the post. I had to call the Agent to tell them this, they were unaware.
The shower head was broken. I replaced it (about £14.00) and emailed the agent but they never even bothered to reply.
I was told the broken kitchen skylight would definitely be fixed before I moved in. I attach an email from Fresh Move confirming this (to the TDS). It took three months to get it fixed.
Each morning I would have to remove slugs from the kitchen and bathroom surfaces and floor. There was almost the constant presence of woodlice from behind the rotting wooden panelling in the bathroom.
2. The asbestos roof tiles
I attach an email from Fresh Move confirming that the roof tiles were asbestos and in need of replacement (to the TDS). This was the final straw. There was a pair of nesting seagulls on the roof in a well established nest. The movement of all these adult and young birds over these worn out asbestos roof tiles was not helping the matter.
The roofer confirmed to me that the tiles were asbestos and needed replacing. This was later repeated by the agent. After I had vacated, the entire roof was replaced (around August).

As a landlord with 20+ properties under full management by Fresh Move for 5 years I have always found them friendly, professional with a comprehensive well priced service. I have also not had complaints about them from my tenants. I have no hesitation in recommending them....

Absolute cowboys. They put us through hell as landlords, and never even apologised. They have NO clue about current letting legislation, and put landlords and there properties at huge risk constantly. Avoid Fresh Move and the Gardners like the plague....

What agent could do to change your mind?
