I have recently been looking for a property to rent and I applied for a property through Zoopla with Roger Deans, I was informed that to proceed I would need to pay a fee and deposit the rep called me to discuss he pointed out that there was a fee and I would have to pay a deposit, he informed the fee was non returnable but the deposit was, the fee was for their administration charges. I duly paid and after 14 days I had had contact chasing up employer references but no decision as to the property itself and had I been successful. I had also applied for another property and this I had been successful so emailed Roger Dean agent and advised I would be pulling out from their property imagine my surprise when I received the following message:-
Because you reserved the property from 3rd September 2014, we will be deducting 14 days rent from the deposit, which amounts to £241.64.
I was gobsmacked charging rent on an occupied property?
Well unsure if legal but would think twice about using them again.
