We have been letting an apartment from Countrywide Lettings in Glasgow for the last 10 months. This has been our absolutely worst experience with a letting agency to date. Usually we don't care enough to write reviews about anything, but we have endured so much neglect, indifference, money grabbing tactics and lack of respect from them that we decided to make an exception, so that people know what they're dealing with before they sign a lease with them. A few examples:
1. 5 days after we moved in we woke up in the middle of the night because rainwater was pouring directly on us. We called the 24/7 emergency repairs number Countrywide had provided us with and were told that they won't come because it's not in their contract. Why did they even bother to give us the number then? Next morning we called and asked for someone to come over and fix it. Someone came 25 days later, after numerous more calls, hours waiting on phone queues, the shower breaking as well leaving us without hot water for a few days and us getting enraged and threatening to deal with them through Shelter Scotland.
2. Most of the issues we have reported to them have still not been fix. We are happy if we get hot bathing water with them; we don't bather anymore with trivial issues such as broken walls (from the beginning) they were supposed to fix a week after we came in, expensive electricity tariffs, mouldy ceilings because of the leaks they did not fix in time.
3. We have been asked to pay trivial fees in every occassion. The latest one was 2 weeks ago when we paid £30 for a reference fee since we're moving to another apartment. Needless to say, 2 weeks later and having sent them all the necessary documents TWICE, today a new lady on the line told me we need to pay them again. And I had to wait (and pay) for 10 minutes on a phone queue to be told that.
4. On many occassions our desperation was so big that we had to go to their Glasgow office. Noone should have to deal with these people. They treated us condescendingly, rudely and basically redirected us betweem themselves and phone lines.
5. To prospective tenants: don't rent from them. Their system is a huge bureaucracy covering for a huge indifference, disrespect and incompetency. Only rent if you like waiting on phone lines.
6. To prospective property owners: Don't go with them, unless you want (a) your property damaged due to their neglect, (b) your tenants leaving every few months.
