Appalling service from several members of staff at City Docklands.
After viewing a property and placing an offer, we had paid £500 holding fee, had the offer accepted, and were already in the process of our referencing and checks.
The agency held our money and left us under the impression that our flat was all organised. During the time our checks were taking place, we were waiting for the contract to be sent so we could sign, we had arranged for parents and friends to take time off work, book trains from north of England and hotels.
After two weeks of waiting, we had chased them up several times and asked to view the property again to start measuring things as we were now due to move in a week and a half later and 2 of our group were going away on holiday. We arranged a viewing for the following day with one of the estate agents, we arrived the next day, waited 15 minutes outside the property, no show of landlord.
Landlord didn't arrive, we were on and off the phone to estate agents who had not written it in their diary, even though we had a confirmation email. They did not show up after leaving us waiting outside the property for 45minutes.
I appreciate that may have been a mistake. But then the following day, we received a phone call saying a very suspicious excuse about the landlord pulling out of the deal. Deciding she wanted more money for it and wasn't happy with the number of tenants, even though she had already been made aware of a couple moving in 2 weeks beforehand when everything was finalised, and she had met us. (we are very normal, sensible professionals, and very clean- not the type of people you wouldn't want in your property)
Now that we had been messed around thinking we had a flat to move into for 2 whole weeks, in the prime time for renting in London, we have now missed out on the majority of properties which are decent and within our budget, and we know there we so many more when we looked the first time around.
In addition, if this was the landlords decision, you would expect the agents to be hugely apologetic and try to help us find another flat within the week and half time frame we are now left with. However they could not have been less helpful.
I would warn anyone looking to use this agency. We were completely messed around and hugely disappointed.
