Had a similar situation. Lived in a one bedroom flat in hove, had to wait over a month after tenancy end to see my deductions (not actually receive any money). Over £200 taken off deposit for cleaning alone. Took videos before i left - of course it wasn't in any state to need to spend that money on cleaning. They also are absolutely hopeless on email. the wavered the agency fees but i have a feeling they were trying to get the £400 which was supposed to be non refundable deposit. they did say they were going to refund me, however, i dont know whether that was because they saw i had some clout behind me with property developers and i knew what i was talking about or if they genuinely were struggling with the application

You are paying to obfuscate the process of finding somewhere to live rather than to make it easier. You are giving people money for nothing, no skill, no service (that couldn't be automated). And on top of that they speak with you with contempt and derision whilst they take your money.
